Day-Trippin' in Palo Alto… NICE
Nature, Intellect, Culture, Entertainment

Is your idea of a great day-trip looking at ancient African wood carvings or fascinating architecture? Or maybe your perfect day would be bike-riding, picnicking and enjoying glorious views? You and your family can do that and more in Palo Alto.

For a cultural extravaganza day-trip, head out to Stanford University and explore one of the largest and most beautiful universities around, and see the birthplace of Silicon Valley’s intellect and its greatest entrepreneurs. Stop by Cantor Arts Center to see 24 galleries of art spanning 4,000 years; including the largest Rodin sculpture collection (with “The Thinker”) in the US. And after stimulating your brain, head over to Stanford Shopping Center’s 140+ open-air stores and restaurants, and stimulate your body with something delicious to eat…and maybe even satisfy your fashionista-self a bit, too. Lucie Stern Theatre offers performances by the nationally recognized company, TheatreWorks. Or head to Downtown Palo Alto and take in a midnight movie at the Aquarius Theater!

For a day of scenery and the outdoors, either plan a hike or grab your helmet and bike and head to Baylands Nature Preserve or Pearson-Arastradero Preserve (where you may even see a bobcat along with a gorgeous view of the bay)! Baylands has 15 miles of trails, marshlands, birds galore, a nature center and Fido is welcome. For toddlers who might not enjoy a longer hike or bike trip, stop off at the very cute Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo. Need a massage after all that hiking? Indulge yourself at Watercourse Way Bathhouse Spa. Then visit a downtown wine bar; enjoy a lazy dinner or the popular bar scene! Very NICE.
Let's get creative!
